How to Set Up In-Store Pickup in AI Search

A phone, a chat bubble and a settings grid, standing for the Advanced Settings where In-Store Pickup is configured

If you sell from physical stores, In-Store Pickup lets shoppers choose their store on your search page and see, on every product, whether that store has it in stock. You turn it on by listing your stores in Advanced Settings.

What do shoppers see?

  • An “In-store pickup” switch at the top of the search filters.
  • A store list that opens when they turn the switch on. Each store has a Select store button and a See store address link.
  • A stock line on every product card for the chosen store, for example “In Stock at Downtown Store”. It says In Stock for 3 or more units at that store, Low Stock for 1 or 2, and Out of Stock for none.

In-Store Pickup labels products; it does not hide them. Shoppers still see every result, so they can also order items that are out of stock at their store. Their store choice is remembered on their device for their next visit.

Before you start

  • A paid plan. Advanced Settings, where you list your stores, is available on paid plans.
  • A Shopify store that tracks inventory at each store location. Stock lines come from your Shopify inventory per location.
  • Search filters on the left or in the floating panel. The switch appears in those two filter layouts. If your filters sit above the results, change Filter position under Customize AI Search.

Step 1: Find each store’s Shopify location ID

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Locations.
  2. Click a store.
  3. Copy the number at the end of the page address. For example, in admin.shopify.com/store/your-shop/settings/locations/64924319816, the location ID is 64924319816.

Repeat this for every store you want to offer.

Step 2: List your stores in Advanced Settings

In the Shoply admin, go to Settings and scroll to Advanced Settings. For where this editor is and how it works, see How to Configure Advanced Settings.

Add a pickup_stores list with one entry per store:

json
{ "pickup_stores": [ { "location_id": "64924319816", "name": "Downtown", "label": "Downtown Store", "address_lines": ["123 Main St", "San Jose, CA 95118"] }, { "location_id": "27214544968", "name": "Berkeley", "address_lines": ["2727 Milvia St", "Berkeley, CA 94703"] } ] }
FieldRequiredWhat it does
location_idYesThe Shopify location ID from Step 1. Stock is read from this location.
nameYesThe store’s name. Shown to shoppers when you don’t set a label.
labelNoThe name shoppers see, if it differs from name.
address_linesNoThe address shown under See store address, one line per entry.

Stores appear in the order you list them. An entry missing location_id or name is skipped.

Already have Advanced Settings? Add pickup_stores as one more key inside the same JSON object, separated from the previous key by a comma. Don’t create a second { } block.

To remove a store, delete its entry. To turn In-Store Pickup off, delete the whole pickup_stores key.

Step 3: Check your search page

Changes reach your storefront within about 10 minutes. After that, your shoppers can use In-Store Pickup on your live store. Try it yourself the same way they will:

  1. Search for a product on your store.
  2. Turn on In-store pickup in the filters.
  3. Click Select store next to one of your stores.
  4. Check that each product card shows a stock line for that store, such as “In Stock at Downtown Store”.

Where does the stock information come from?

Stock comes from your Shopify inventory. Shoply reads it during its regular catalog sync.

  • Shoply reads each store’s inventory from Shopify. For every product variant, Shoply reads the “available” quantity at each Shopify location through the Shopify Admin API.
  • Stock lines are not live. They refresh when your catalog syncs. How often that happens depends on your sync schedule. For example, a busy store’s catalog may sync about once a day.
  • Shopify does not notify Shoply of each inventory change. A sale or restock shows up only after the next sync.
  • Search results can also be reused for up to 24 hours. This can add to the delay.

Treat the stock line as a guide. Your product page and checkout show the exact, live availability.

How is stock counted?

  • Units are added up across all variants of a product, such as every size and color, at the chosen store.
  • Products with no inventory records at any of your listed stores show no stock line. This is common for digital products, gift cards, and items whose inventory isn’t tracked.

Can I match my brand’s colors?

Yes. Add rules to your search CSS. To find where, see how to customize AI Search with CSS.

css
/* The switch, Select store buttons, and links */ .shoply-pickup-filter { --shoply-pickup-accent: #00823d; } /* Stock line colors on product cards */ .shoply-product-pickup-stock-in .shoply-product-pickup-stock-status { color: #00823d; } .shoply-product-pickup-stock-low .shoply-product-pickup-stock-status { color: #d13a00; } .shoply-product-pickup-stock-out .shoply-product-pickup-stock-status { color: #b21109; }

Other classes you can style:

ClassElement
.shoply-pickup-filterThe whole In-Store Pickup section in the filters
.shoply-pickup-store-nameA store’s name in the list
.shoply-pickup-select-storeThe Select store button
.shoply-product-pickup-stockThe stock line on a product card

Troubleshooting

The switch doesn’t appear.

  • Check that Advanced Settings shows no JSON Error below the editor, and that you saved.
  • Check that each store has both location_id and name.
  • Check that your search filters are on the left or in the floating panel.
  • Wait about 10 minutes after saving, then reload your search page.

Every product says Out of Stock.

  • Check that each location_id matches the store’s Shopify location, as in Step 1.
  • Check in Shopify that inventory is tracked at that location.

Some products have no stock line. Those products have no inventory records at your listed stores. See How is stock counted?.
